When it comes to trendy hostels the Generator hostel in Smithfield is the best you are going to find in Dublin. This is not about the hostel itself but the impression that the rather large bar has to offer.
Located in Smithfield right in the heart of the old Jameson factory and beside the tourist attraction the bar is of various levels as it used to be a old night club of a hotel. The bar is very relaxed with ample places to sit with the upper level a mixture of hostel guests relaxing, charging their phone and browsing the internet.
They have a new food menu but you can’t go wrong with their burgers and seem to be very popular with not only residents but the locals too.
The night we visited there was a singer songwriter there and also salsa classes in the upper area of the bar, having talked to many locals about the Generator it seems to be a place to go if you want to watch the football as it has a large projector showing Premiership matches.
The prices are not as cheap as you would expect for a hostel but for value in entertainment it’s worth paying the extra.
